Average number of litters a fertile female dog can produce in one year: 2
Average number of puppies in a canine litter: 6–10

In six years, one female dog and her offspring can theoretically produce 67,000 dogs. However, malnutrition, disease, starvation and poisoning await the majority of these offspring.  For the mother's - they will become very weakened by their state of perpetual pregnancy and lactation, which causes a greatly reduced immunity and therefore allows a much greater susceptibility to disease.

Average number of litters a fertile cat can produce
in one year: 3
Average number of kittens in a feline litter: 4–6
In seven years, one female cat and her offspring
can theoretically produce 420,000 cats.

We are deeply indebted to International Animal Rescue, who sterilize the stray animals and treat wounds and animals in distress, and much much more. If we did not have the luxury of IAR in Goa, we would not have the luxury of our own organization trying to provide other forms of support. IAR treat so many animals, they don’t possibly have time or resources to feed the strays too, we have brought animals to IAR for many years, and continue to do so… and we are tremendously grateful for the amazing work they do.

Some will survive, but most, especially puppies will die a horrible and slow death. Monsoon is a hard time, with no
food or shelter. Nature did not invent The Tourist Season!

Did you ever walk on the beach and see enough dead fish to feed up to 7 dogs every 200 meters? Also the fishermen stop fishing in the monsoon, so there are no scraps to go around.

Don’t forget dogs are territorial (like us!), so beach dogs risk attack from village dogs and humans. They can be inflicted with severe cuts which all too often lead to infections in the damp climate and terrible infestation by  maggots.
